"When my children were young, I had no idea how much anxiety impacted our family. How I wish there had been resources like “Parenting our Children Through the Eyes of Anxiety” back then! Now- I’m a grandmother in a world full of worry and uncertainty. What I found so valuable was that, despite the best of intentions, some of our responses to a child’s anxiety do not alleviate worry. They can actually exacerbate it. Having a game plan and working with the child to help them gain control over their own anxiety makes so much sense!"
-Tess H., A Grateful Grandma
As a parent, a grandparent and a school counselor for over 20 years, I found Parenting our Children Through the Eyes of Anxiety, a relevant and invaluable resource particularly in these challenging times. Having a succinct awareness of the science of anxiety helps caregivers and children begin to manage anxiety without blaming or passing judgment. And ultimately begin to problem solve and develop a plan to address these issues.
It was interesting to learn that reassurance by parents may actually increase self -doubt and discourage children from handling their own anxiety successfully. I recommend it to professionals and families who are struggling with anxiety in these unprecedented times.
-Kate T., Retired School Counselor

Growing up in a family of 9 siblings, Sara J. Riley, L.M.H.C. witnessed firsthand the motivations and behaviors of children. In her own family and in her mental health practice, she has also witnessed the process of anxiety – how anxiety and worry can frustrate, control, and discourage children and their parents. All of these experiences guided her towards her passion: to educate and encourage families so they feel empowered to take action and make changes. She does this in a playful and hope-filled way while providing practical suggestions.
Sara is a Florida Mental Health Counselor in private practice in Palm Coast, FL. For over 30 years, she has worked with a variety of issues that children and adolescents present, and has noticed a tremendous increase in stress and anxiety. She is certified as a parenting instructor in Redirecting Children’s Behavior. She also has a certification as a Clinical Anxiety Treatment Professional-Child and Adolescent. Knowledge from both of these Certifications has enhanced her work in the field of mental health, and she is grateful to be able to share this information.
When she isn’t working and spending time with her spouse and two lovely daughters, she focuses on self-enrichment activities. These include exercise, meditation, trying out new recipes, and striving to be a life-long learner. Sara is excited to take what she has learned from her own parenting and professional experiences and share it with a new audience.
